Jesus was the perfect Lamb of God, unblemished by sin and therefore qualified to be the once-for-all sacrifice for humanity’s sins. And our sovereign and gracious God attributes Jesus’ righteousness to us. There is absolutely nothing we sinners can do to cleanse ourselves of our sin or to bridge the immeasurable gap between us and our holy God. When we choose to accept His divine arrangement, though, we are blessed to have Jesus’ righteousness credited to us. We are righteous not because of who we are or what we’ve done, but only because God chooses to accept Jesus’ sacrifice and credit it to your account and mine.
